How to Remove Mould from Leather Shoes

by Kath P on Mar 23, 2023

Leather shoes, while expensive and stylish, can be tricky to clean. Mould is a common problem on leather shoes, as it loves to grow in dark places with high humidity. Fortunately, there are several methods you can use to remove mould from your leather shoes.

One of the most useful techniques is to mix equal parts water and white vinegar in a bowl or bucket and submerge the affected area of the shoe into it. Let the shoe sit for 30 minutes – this will help loosen some of the mould spores. After this time has elapsed, take out the shoe and wipe off any remaining mould with a soft cloth that has been dampened with warm water.

Another approach is to create a paste using either baking soda or talcum powder and water. Apply the paste to the mouldy area and let it sit for 20 minutes, then use a damp cloth to scrub off the remnants.

Finally, you can also clean leather shoes with mild soap and warm water. Dip a soft cloth in a soapy solution of 1-2 drops of liquid soap per cup of warm water, gently rub the affected area with it, then rinse off using a separate damp cloth.

By using any one of these methods, you should be able to remove mould from your expensive leather shoes!
